About

Welcome to PagingDrAllie.wordpress.com!

I started this blog in March of 2012 to chronicle my journey toward (hopefully) becoming a medical student and physician. At this blog’s inception, I was a newlywed and my life had been full of changes over that past year: I had finished a graduate degree, traveled outside the US,  moved two hours away from home, started a new job, and started two new volunteer gigs… it was quite the adventure! In the middle of all of this, I was also a medical school applicant.

Writing has always been one of my hobbies and my outlets. I have always loved stories, and have even had three poems published. Someday, I hope to write a book. Who knows, maybe someday one of these posts will wind up in a book or newspaper/journal article or column! For now, this is my way to jot down what happens in my life, keep my memories, and to let family and friends back home know what is going on in my life. I’ll be sure to share our adventures as we travel (which I hope to still do once school starts, even if trips are less frequent), my thoughts on things I see and do while I’m a medical student, as well as my hopes, fears, joys, and struggles. I am excited and nervous to see how the stresses of medical school change me over the next four years.

If I were to describe my life, I would say that I am just a humble girl trying to change the world, one day at a time! My greatest joys in life are growing in my Christian faith, being the best wife I can be for my adoring and wonderful husband, traveling the world with him, and attempting to better the world through medicine and a genuine love for people. My ultimate ambitions are to become a neonatologist, world traveler, and a mother (our first child is due in summer 2014!). I love being outside, spending time with friends and family, traveling anywhere & everywhere, exploring, watching movies, the occasional dinner/movie date with my husband, reading, cooking/baking, and writing.

It is my hope that anyone who is pre-med or is thinking about medical school in general can use my blog and my examples to help them along this hard road toward being a physician. This blog is meant to be a real reflection of what this task is like, whether the days are good, bad, stressful, and/or fun.

  3. Hi Allie!

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated your blog for the Liebster Award (http://5yearjourneyblog.wordpress.com/2014/07/31/liebster-award-acceptance-post-part-2/).

Since first reading about your premed story, I’ve found you to be an incredibly inspiring and positive voice in the almost doctors blogging community. I also appreciate all the great advice you’ve given me thus far on my own blog posts. 🙂

I know you’re really busy, but I hope you’ll accept!
